Hi friends. Welcome to the first post in a new series titled Living in The Woodlands. The Good, the bad, and the ugly. I am so excited to bring you so many different perspectives on what it is like to live in The Woodlands. I asked everyone to be as honest as possible, and when I told them the title, almost everyone quickly responded to "the bad, and the ugly" part as being funny, since they loved The Woodlands so much. So without further ado, here is the first guest post.. It is written by a local bachelor who works for an insurance corporation in The Woodlands..
Living in the woodlands has been an absolute joy. Having roots tied to Louisiana, California, Arizona, and now Texas (happily) has given me a wonderful appreciate for the area. Whether it’s live entertainment, new restaurants, or a friendly chat with a stranger, The Woodlands is a happy place to be.
Hailing most recently from Huntsville, Texas (Go BearKats) I am absolutely loving the copious number of things to do in the area. Unlike a small town, The Woodlands is flooded with every type of restaurant imaginable, with no shortage of live entertainment. No matter what type of food you are in the mood for, you will be able to find it locally.
On the negative side, being so close to the merger of Grand Parkway and I-45 causes some major traffic jams during peak driving times. Luckily for myself, I get to avoid that area as I work locally in The Woodlands. Planning drives into Houston or out of Houston back north can be slightly unpleasant, but nothing that I would consider a deal breaker.
Also on the negative side, people are not as open to random conversations with strangers. That being said, in today’s day and age, talking with strangers can be frowned upon.
Back on a positive note, The Woodlands will offer simple pleasures that you cannot find in Houston. Like views of trees and woods, instead of large buildings in every direction. Even in my apartment, I can look out my patio and see a lake and woods, not noticing any neighbors at all.
Frequently, I will see children outside playing in their yards, riding their bicycles through the neighborhoods, or playing sports in the driveway. It brings a smile to my face and reminds me of all the pleasant memories of my childhood.
I plan on being a lifelong resident of The Woodlands, and I do not believe there is any way someone would be able to talk me out of it.
If you are on the verge of moving to the woodlands, my advice would simply be “do it.”
